Canyoning in Tuscany – Discover hidden rivers and gorges

Canyoning

Outdoor activity in Tuscany: discover unspoilt gorges and rapids in complete safety.

Canyoning lets you enjoy the views from wild and otherwise inaccessible locations.
It’s great fun and totally safe.

What is Canyoning?

Canyoning (or Canyoneering) involves navigating descents, on foot, into narrow canyons with streams or creeks. Canyoning is a group activity, accompanied by a guide.

Garfagnana and the Lima Valley offer completely unspoilt natural locations, with canyons providing perfect spots for jumping, diving and abseiling. Safety is our top priority – every detail is covered to make sure that you only need think about one thing: having fun!

Who can explore the Canyon?

Canyoning is suitable for everyone over 10 years old.

You don’t need any particular physical training or preparation. The routes are adventurous, but they are designed so that everyone can have fun exploring these hidden gorges and rivers.

It’s the perfect activity if you’re looking for exploration and discovery in beautiful natural surroundings.

River Trekking is a perfect alternative for families or for the less experienced. River Trekking consists of walking along (or through) the river, with some fun and easy jumps and dives.

For the more adventurous, we have a 5 hour long route in Garfagnana, a few kilometres from Bagni di Lucca.

WHERE CAN I TRY CANYONING

In the Lima Valley, nestled between the Apuan Alps, the Apennines and Garfagnana.

The Lima Valley, in the heart of Tuscany, is the perfect place for water sports. The water sports centre Rockonda is located here – a special ‘ecosystem’ of activities based on the wild and unspoilt Lima river.

The canyons, created by the river, are host to our canyoning activities. Start your adventure here, along the river at the bottom of the gorge, and enjoy the cool temperatures away from the intense summer heat.

ROCKONDA

A water sports centre with a passion for all the river has to offer

Rockonda was created with our love for river sports at its heart, in a perfect location: the Lima Valley, a few kilometres from Garfagnana.

Our experience rafting in Tuscany, in an unspoilt location off the beaten track, inspired us to create organised trips and experiences and continuously improve them over the years. Rockonda is now over 10 years old.

Our expert Rockonda guides are all certified, allowing you to relax and enjoy the experience in complete safety. Wild Tuscany awaits you!

Our commitment to the Lima river

Together with other sports associations, we collaborate with the river protection authorities to maintain the delicate eco-system of the river. We take part in reporting and cleaning activities to remove pollution sources and ensuring that the river is safe and environmentally healthy.

This collaboration in Tuscany, between a Rafting organisation and the River Protection Authority, is the first of its kind on a national level. We’d like to share our experience as a pilot project with other regions in Italy.

Useful Information

Rockonda will provide all the necessary equipment for you to enjoy the activity in complete safety: Neoprene wetsuit, harness, safety lanyards and karabiners, helmet, life jacket (not essential but available on request).
